Optometrist Doubles Income By Closing Practice, Selling Stock Photos

Like online contact lens sites, Martinez is all about the loopholes.

A local optometrist today has revealed that it is far more lucrative to just pretend to be an optometrist than to actually be one.

Following 5 years in business Perry Martinez recently closed his practice, citing the need to try something different. Martinez soon found that selfies were far more profitable than sight-saving clinical eye care.

“At first i just took some selfies of me doing random optometry things for my instagram stories. then after i received a request to use one of my shots in a company’s ad, i thought to myself, could i really get paid to just pretend to be an optometrist?”

Perry Martinez reflecting on his life-changing decision

Martinez revealed that so far he has sold over $1 million in stock images of him dressed in a lab coat, just doing random optometry things. A photo of him pretending to use a slit lamp has been downloaded 800,000 times.

Martinez went on to say “You’ve got to try it. Seriously, could you imagine being an optometrist without ever having to see a patient? It’s amazing. It’s like research but actually lucrative”.

Martinez has revealed plans to open 220 ‘ghost’ optometry practices across the United States, solely for the purpose of taking stock photos.
