An alarming study has been published showing that 31% of Australian Optometrists have moderate to severe psychological distress, with retail pressures and decreasing focus on healthcare being cited as the highest work related contributing factors. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/opo.12823

Most troublingly, 4 times as many optometrists report severe psychological distress (14.7%) than found in a similar survey of Australian doctors.

Whilst these numbers are very high, shareholders say that with the right steps, management can achieve even higher scores next quarter.

An anonymous shareholder told our reporters “These numbers are encouraging but we still think there’s room for growth in this area. I’d suggest we ramp up holding optometrists accountable for retail outcomes, whilst simultaneously telling graduates and customers….sorry I mean patients, that we’re all about healthcare. We should probably also start casually referring to them as opticians, that’ll probably help.”
